As the school year ends, students here at La Sierra are already planning what they want to do for the summer. Excitement builds up, seniors are ready to graduate and start their lives, and juniors, sophomores, and freshmen are all planning their perfect summer with fun activities that range from parties to regularly hanging out with friends without the stress of school on their backs. Summer is always an exciting time of year where kids get to enjoy being free from school with no stress of any homework, and more time to be out and do non-school related things. 8th graders prep for their starting year as freshmen, seniors are graduating, and everyone starting a new chapter in their life.
All the Students that were interviewed said similar things about what activities they would do. It ranges from traveling to just simply hanging out with friends from school.
“Me and my family planned a cruise to Mexico and I’m excited to go on this trip and just be away from town and school,” Audrey Conrad (11) said.
Traveling away can be a great experience, but also something simple to unwind and go to the mall.
“The mall is my favorite place for me and my friends to go to, we hang out there every time we miss each other,” Shyanne Burke-Castro (11) said.
Summer can also be a new opportunity for kids to get a job and get real-life experiences by working and trying out jobs that would best fit them. Applying for a summer job can always be exciting for kids who want to gain more personal experience in the professional field, or just to earn money to buy things for themselves or friends. It can feel very freeing to have your own money and use it on yourself all the time, while also learning about saving.
“Last summer my sophomore year I got a job at McDonald’s and I kinda felt more independent in a way, not having to ask my parents for money anymore, and it feels nice to spoil my friends,” Kayley Stoll (11) said.
