Senior ditch day, is an informal tradition where high school seniors decide to skip school and enjoy a day off or a day with their friends and go out outside school. This event usually happens once a year and the main students participating are seniors. Senior Ditch day is often marked by students participating in group activities, such as going to the beach, having a picnic, or amusement parks. It’s seen as a final bonding experience for the class before graduation and the next phase of their lives. It’s important to be in tune in on this event because it’s looked at as a important day in all high school students’ lives. According to a few students that I asked here at La Sierra High School seniors and their personal opinions, “do you think senior ditch day is a good or bad that for students?” Here are some questions I asked some students.
Yohanna Yonas:
Me: “If you were to go to any place for your ditch day where would u go and why?”
YY: Most definitely the beach not only because we all are plan on going to the beach, really because I’m a beach girl. I love going to the beach and going in the water and building sandcastles.
Me: “In your opinion is senior ditch day a good or bad thing why or why not?”
YY: “I wouldn’t say it is a bad thing but I wouldn’t go so far and say it was a good thing either but I think it’s neutral. Sometimes seniors need to take a break because as a a senior I know how it feels to need a break.”
Me: “Looking back on your high school years what would your say was your favorite memory and why?”
YY: “That’s a hard question. I would say probably joining the basketball team my senior year even through I joined it late I’m so glad I joined it because I met many new people and [made] connections.”
Me: “How do you feel that your high school years are coming to a end?”
YY: “It’s a weird feeling. I’m glad I’m done with high school, I’m over with it but it is kinda of scary that I’m going to be in the adult world. But I’m really ready for college.”
As the final weeks of the school year wind down, many seniors eagerly anticipate the arrival of senior ditch day. This long standing tradition allows students to take a well deserved break from the rigors of coursework and enjoy some much needed relaxation with their classmates. Whether spending the day at the beach, going on a hike, or simply lounging around, senior ditch day provides a chance for students to create lasting memories before embarking on the next chapter of their lives. While some schools may frown upon the practice, most recognize it as an important rite of passage that allows seniors to celebrate their achievements and look forward to graduation with a sense of excitement and camaraderie. As this special day approaches, the anticipation and excitement among the senior class is palpable, serving a bittersweet reminder that their high school journey is coming to a end.
