Music allows students to express their various emotions. Students often turn to music as a safe space. In an attempt to learn more about our students we asked a few questions about their music taste.
We are influenced by the people around us in various ways even in the more personal ways such as the music we listen to.
“Through my parents. They used to play Kendrick [Lamar]’s music in the car when I was younger and I just grew up knowing it,” Adrina Escobedo (10) said.
Despite her parents’ influence, what kept Escobedo interested in Lamar’s music?
“His music is a vibe and his lyrics are relatable,” Escobedo said.
Despite personal music tastes, some artists are just so popular that the majority of this school’s students can identify as their favorite artist.
“I’d probably say Drake and if you were to say his name a lot of people would know him,” Le Angelo Goode (11) said.
As you grow up, so do your interests. You may stop participating in a sport you used to love or in this case you stop listening to music you used to enjoy.
When asked why he stopped listening to XXX Tentatacion, Giovanni Garcia (9) said, “I don’t know just because I got bored.”
Although music can be so different and personal, it has the ability to unite many people. Asking these students helped better understand what music is trending among students.
